| Living Word (History)
In 1986 Nevil Norden distributed posters all around Pretoria to invite people to services in the old Cinerama Theatre in Church Street. The first service was held on 2 February 1986. The congregation that originated from these meetings was called Lewende Woord (now also translated as Living Word). The vision of the congregation was to minister Biblical truths to the community, so that they could experience a living and intimate relationship with God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit. The congregation was eventually transferred to the Transvalia Theatre and moved back to the Cinerama Theatre a year later. Membership continued growing and the need for an own church building became increasingly urgent. In July 1990 the premises in Brummeria Road, 72, Brummeria (close to the CSIR) was purchased. In February 1992 the congregation moved to the new premises and a 1400-seat tent was established as a place to congregate and worship. Within a year more than 150 new members were added. The services were attended by up to 1500 people on any given Sunday. Despite cold winters, warm summers, a leaking roof, neighbours’ complants about the noise, shortage of space, poor acoustics, etc., many congregational activities have fallen into place and a firm foundation has been laid for Living Word’s progressive growth. During 1995 we started building a modern church building and offices on the premises. The inauguration of the church building was on Friday, 7 June 1996. In the meantime five additional congregations have also been planted in Pretoria: LW Centurion, LW Westerlig, LW Montana, LW Moot and LW Pretoria East.
